Birfday Cake!

Mommy made a rather flat hand-mixed cake late at night, but resisted the urge to re-make it in the morning, and you know the important thing was watching the cuteness of the kids blowing out the candles!
We turned out the lights and everyone sang to Nate, then it was a contest of wills as to who got to blow out a candle! Nate loved the fire so much he didn't want to blow out the candles, so Moira gave it a try! Then Miles came over and had a go, then Nora finally said "I'll do it!" and leaned over the table! Nate finally puffed one out! It was just so fun too because the kidlets are finally at the age where they can get excited about a party and understand what a birthday is (sort of) and all enjoy each other's company. I just missed that the Grandmas couldn't be here or our friend Heidi!

That's my friend Chris in the stripey sweater, sorry I chopped your head off in the photos, Chris!
This looks like all present were having a wonderful time. Nate is so sweet. And all of his guests were wonderful to him.
We were so lucky! We are totally sick this week with runny noses and various aches and pains. Luckily Daddy has had a few vacation days to help me get a rest.
It was so nice to have the kids kind of play together for once! On the playground they don't really focus too much on any one thing, so having kids over is great.
Nate had a great time chasing Ruby around the trees the other day--she likes to hide and climb and that was new to Nate.
What a delightful group. Just like a girl to take charge. Three-year olds have so much fun together, especially when moms provide a "special occasion."
