Embarking on a new adventure!

Last night mommy and daddy made an important move to get Nate rolling in school--our first school meeting! Friends from across the lake watched Nate for us (Nate loves baby Miles) and ate pizza while Matt and I stood under fluorescent lights with a dozen parents and listened to rules.
They were good rules for our little school, though: no 'modeling' by parents, sit at the kids' level, let a child finish playing with something before he has to 'share.' All good, imho. Matt and I both eyeballed each other at the mention of 'modeling,' i.e., once you draw FOR the child, they will never want to draw, because you do it better! At our house, it's "draw a happy face" and Nate gets to erase it on the magnadoodle toy! Sometimes Nate draws a "noisy," or a color "Blue, very good!" Good to take a hands-off approach. The finishing playing aspect is great, too. Why are kids asked to always give up their favorite toys? So not fair.
Nate's school is just that--a tot "school" where parents participate as a co-op, though it's not a co-op, it's a school where the kids can have a little structure (she warned us they often move as a 'flock' around the room!) and play and explore different stuff. Nate's other organized activity kind of fizzled out when mommy found out there may be lead in the astroturf on the indoor soccer fields, eek. Nate just really ran up and down in there, anyhow. They are testing the soccer fields for lead and maybe we'll go next year.
Nate did terrific with Miles and his mommy Chris babysitting, he loves company. Everybody loves those two, however, so we'll see how often we can swap bb-sitting. They played side-by-side and Miles was sad to go. Ruby cat chilled on the sofa, as usual, apparently never moving from her spot! So, babysitting: possible. School: a good step. Should be a good fall!

That's us on the Redwood Railroad back when it was still 85 degrees, note the pink cheeks. No pics of the school for security/privacy, maybe I'll take a few for prints. We start school next week, just for a couple of hours at a time!
How wonderful for Nate to get into school. Will he love it? What an surprise for him.
Yes, I think he'll love it. He really watches what other kids do and will really do well on his own when I am gone, I think. We are very privileged to get him started early, maybe he can get a scholarship to the lovely private school down the street, where many of the kids transfer. Time for lots of meetings, fund-raisers, etc., with our new school buddies. Our school tuition is very reasonable, a third of the parents have scholarships, and the budget is tiny. Very cool place.
What fun! It's always exciting to take another step forward in a child's life. Gosh, though, we missed out on the 'modeling' prohibition. I hope that extends to art work and such and not to all aspects of life.
