Going somewhere??

New behavior revelation:
After a fine outing, Nate often breaks down tearfully "one more time swing-swing" no matter what we've been doing, even if we just did swings one more time! We are often perplexed, as we've just really done it to death, and we get pretty frustrated. Finally, mommy realized...Nate is SAD that we are LEAVING and the day is ending!! He knows it's time to "go home and water the guh-wasss" but the transition is still difficult. This behavior is even more extreme with some of our friends. Mommy is adding, along with "bye bye park," "come back soon!" which seems to help a little. The concept of the future is slowly taking shape.

It's Ft. Point in SF, looking up!
Uncle Joho recommends more of a countdown, we'll try more of that too!

Tell Nate : Five minutes and we have to go...(nothing else)
But don't wait five minutes - wait one minute or two minutes. I think that is what I did with you.
Concentration is broken.

He'll go, and say "go home, see Rocco see Ruby," but still cry! I think I let him stay out too long half the time, too. Plus, needing to eat lunch, etc...Will try the timing thing!

The concentration element...we call it the "toddler loop." Nate gets going, up and down the slide, in an intense concentrated effort. The boy works hard.

Strategies for transitions help, and getting just a bit older will solve the problem, too. Still, kids love being outdoors, and Nate is so lucky to go out and get moving virtually every day. What a dynamo!
